How to Handle God’s Word?
Handle God Word as the Word of the Creator of the universe. we have to know the Authority of God’s Word. The word of God has authority to bring faith into the heart which is ready to know and believe in God. “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Rom. 10:17). This key scripture about the word of God should not be only known but be also extended to implications and applications strictly and seriously. Faith comes by hearing the word of God. (Matthew 7:22-27; 24:35). If someone has doubts about the word, it is only because he hasn’t been reading enough of God’s Word.
The word of God is a judge (Heb. 4:12). Everybody shall be judged according to the word of God (John 12:47,48 cf. James 4:12; John 5:22,23).
Matt. 9:26 “For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father’s, and of the holy angels.”
Micah 2:7 “O thou that art named the house of Jacob, is the spirit of the Lord straitened? are these his doings? do not my words do good to him that walketh uprightly? (Isa. 66:2,5; Isa. 57:15). Therefore hear, obey and keep the word of God (Rev. 3:8) The following are basic guidelines for the right interpretation:-
1. Don’t Add to God’s Word, Neither Diminish from it.
Deut. 12:32 ‘‘What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: you shall not add thereto, nor diminish from it.’’
Deut. 4:2 ‘‘You shall not add to the word which I command you, neither shall you diminish ought from it, that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.’’
Pro. 30:6 ‘‘Add you not to his words, lest he reprove you, and you be found a liar.’’
2. Don’t turn from the Word to the right hand or to the left
Josh. 1:7-8 ‘‘Only be you strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded you: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth; but you shall meditate therein day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success.’’
3. Don’t Listen to the Words of False Prophets
Jer. 23:30 ‘‘Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, said the LORD, that steal my words every one from his neighbor.’’
Jer. 23:16 ‘‘Thus said the LORD of hosts, Listen not to the words of the prophets that prophesy to you: they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the LORD.’’
4. Don’t Break Even one of the Least Commandments and Despise not them
Matt. 5:19 ‘‘Whoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.’’
Acts 13:41 ‘‘Behold, you despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which you shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it to you.’’
5. Don’t walk in false ways, and Make use of the word of God with deceit
II Cor. 4:2,3 ‘‘but we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by the manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled in them that perish:’’
6. Don’t Go farther than what is in the Holy Writings
I Cor. 4:6 ‘‘And these things, brothers, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sakes; that you might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written, that no one of you be puffed up for one against another.’’
7. Don’t Pervert the Word of God and Don’t Preach Another Gospel
Gal. 1:6-9 ‘‘…but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than that which we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel to you than that you have received, let him be accursed.’’
8. Don’t Twist the Word of God
II Pet. 3:16 ‘‘As also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, to their own destruction.’’
9. Don’t Interpret for yourself The Word of God
II Pet.1:20,21 ‘‘Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.’’
10. Don’t Take Away from the Word of God
Rev. 22:18-19 ‘‘If any man shall add to these things, God shall add to him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.’’
This is how to handle God’s Word:-
“Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.” (2Tim 4:2-5).
